It seem like everybody is creating videos these days. They are a great way to keep your business at the top of your customers mind. Many people seem to overthink the video production process. I’m here to give you some advice on how to make your life a little simpler. Here are 5 tips on how you can improve your video production.
#1 What Camera to Use
Working as a video professional, I’ve been asked countless amount of times “What camera should I get?” With today’s technology, the type of camera you have is nearly insignificant. Just about every camera these days, including cell phones are able to record in Full HD. I always say that the best camera is the one you have access to: when cell phones are used properly have the ability to create professional looking videos.
#2 Content is King
The content of your videos is what really matters. You could spend thousands of dollars on the best equipment and if you aren’t producing good content, your video could still fail. To set your videos up for success, you need to know who you’re creating the video for. Relatable content is what pushes viewers to share your videos. Viewers will be more inclined to share videos with their friends and family if they can closely relate to the video.
#3 Keep the Editing Simple
When editing your videos don’t overthink the editing process. Clean cuts are oftentimes the best transition from clip to clip. Special effect transitions can oftentimes take away from the message of the video. In many major Hollywood movies clean cut transitions are used more than anything else. Keep the coloring to a minimum; color editing should only be used if it will truly add to the emotion of the story.
Here are some free editing programs to get you started:
#4 Distribution is Queen
Earlier I mentioned that content is king, the second most important aspect of creating successful videos for your business is distribution. Without a proper distribution plan, your video won’t get as many views or engagement as it could. Publishing your video on YouTube or Facebook and walking away from it isn’t proper distribution. You should plan on creating dedicated posts for all of your social media platforms that may include images, gifs, or short clips of the video. All of these posts should include the link to your video as well.
#5 Hire a Professional
If you are really having a hard time with the video production process. I suggest you hire a professional. Video production is a fast growing industry where many businesses are being created all the time. You can reach out to a video hobbyist or contact a production company to create a stunning video or series of videos for your business.
Things to keep in mind
If you do choose to create your own videos, there are just a few things to keep in mind during your shoot.
- White Balance: This is the color that your camera will record in. Most cameras have have an auto white balance which can be good for when you don’t have a lot of time. But if you do have some time, you should try experimenting with the different white balance presets like indoor, shady, sunlight, tungsten and Kelvin (K) if you know the color of the light you’re using.
- Rule of Thirds: This is a simple yet effective technique. If you ever have someone talking to the camera, like during an interview, you should plan to keep their head placed on either the upper left third or upper right third like in the example below.
We hope the best for your video production adventure. Keep these simple tips in mind and you’ll have no problem creating stunning content. For more help with videos for your business contact us using the button below.
